It is 23:30 universal time, and here is the news in special English on Voice of America. I'm Jim Tider in Washington.
American John Walker Lindh has told a court near Washington he is guilty of charges of being part of the Taliban army in Afghanistan. He also admitted supporting the Taliban and al Qaeda terrorist group and carrying explosive devices for them.He faces a possible prison term of twenty years. Lindh admitted guilt in an exchange for emigrant that the United State cancel more serious charges against him.He must also honor a promise to cooperate fully with American officials in their investigation of Alkeld terrorist. The more serious charges again will be made against him if he violate the promise. Those charges include plotting the murder of the United State citizens. That charge carrys a possible life sentence.
The value of shares on the United State stock market changed greatly during the trading day Monday. The average value of the leading industrial stocks drops more than 400 points, then increased to close with only a 45 points lose. Over the past week, that average fell nearly 700 points, more than 7% of it's total value.
Earlier in the day, president Bush spoke to small business owners in the Suden city of Birmingham Alabama. He said the country economy is strong, but the market dropped even further after his speech. The value of the American dollar is less than the Euro. for the first time. On Friday the Euro. equals 99 cents, On Mondy one Euro. would buy more than one dollar. Financial experts blame the United State economic problems for the dollars decline not increasing strenth of the Euro. They say the dollar will again be worth more than the Euro if investor confidence returns to American industry.
An Israeli military expert says Syria is moving weapons to Iraq ? in violation of United Nation's arm restrictions. Syria is the president of the UN security council. Thevel Shef made a statement in a report in the Israeli newspaper Haaleps. He said the weapons include Tank ?, warplane ?, and anti-aircraft equipment made in eastern Europe.He said the new relations between Iraq and Syria is an important changes in the middle east. Earlier Israel new military chief warn that intelligents report show Syria and Iraq forming military ties. and even bad that Iraq parliament voted to support military measures to resist an American attack aimed at Austin Sadam Housin.
Egyptian and Israeli officials are meeting in a Egyptian city of Alexandria. They are again disagreeing about the ?part Palestinian leader Arthur Alfart should play in middle east peace efforts. American, Russian, European and United Nation's officials are preparing to meet in New York city to develop a middle east peace plan. Secretary state(name) will represent the United State in the day long meeting Tuesday. UN secretary general Kofi Annan, Russian foreign minister(name) and European Union foreign chief(name) will also attend. The state department said they will discuss the idea that the nations of Israel and Palestine will exist next to each other in peace within secure and recognize borders, They will also discuss efforts to help Palestinian reform their economy.
A British publication said Osama Bin Laden was wounded during an American led attack in Afghanistan in December, but that he is now in good health. The (name of publication) magazine said it's information came from someone close to Osama Bin Laden. A magazine official said he believes the Alkelder leader maybe moving around in the area alone the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. United State defenced official say they know about the report that Osama Bin Laden is alive, but they say they have no information to confirm or deny the reports. The Afghan goverment has ordered an end to private armies. A spokes man for Afghan president (name) says the Cabinet decided to form a committee to supervise the disarming of such groups. The goverment hopes the move will help it's effort to create a national army. Earlier Mr. (name) met with American deputy defence secretary(name), Mr.(name) said that forming a national army is extremely important to the nation of Afghanistan.
Morocco's foreign minister says his country will not remove it's troops from a disputed Mediterranean island occupied last week. (name) told reporters that the island Aleila is under Moroccan rule. Spain also claims the island which it calls (name). The island is about 200 meters of the Moroccan coast near a Spanish area Quida. Spain prime minister says his goverment is making diplomatic efforts to resolve the dispute, but it will not accept the presents the Moroccan troops on the island. 12 Moroccan soldiers raised their country's flag over the island on Thursday. Morocco says it sent the soldiers there to fight terrorism and capture people trying to illegally cross the strait of Gibraltar.
