Luminex-based product receives FDA approval
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a product that includes biological testing products by Austin's Luminex Corp.
Luminex's technology will be included in testing systems manufactured by Raritan, N.J.-based Zeus Scientific Inc., a news release from both companies states.
Luminex [Nasdaq: LMNX] makes and markets hardware and software that perform numerous biological tests at the same time on the same sample. The company's LabMAP product performs as many as 100 biological tests at one time on a drop of fluid.
Zeus markets and sells autoimmune tests for health care problems such as lupus, thyroid disease and liver disease.
The FDA granted clearance for commercialization of Zeus' new AtheNA Multi-Lyte ANA Test System, which is based on Luminex's LabMAP technology. The test system will aid diagnosis of various autoimmune disorders.
Zeus will begin marketing the new product in the first quarter of 2002, according to the news release.
