Chinanews, Beijing, Oct. 25 - A Chinese official recently said that with great efforts devoted to scientific research, Chinese scientists aim to control the spread of viral hepatitis and effectively treat the disease over the next 10-15 years.
The statement was made by Wang Hongguang, Director of the China Biotechnology Development Center in an interview in Beijing. Under this general plan, Wang further outlined three detailed goals for effectively controlling the disease.
First, scientists will try to keep the number of newly contracted patients under 300,000 every year. Most newborn babies will not contract viral hepatitis, and the spread of the disease will be effectively curbed.
Second, scientists will make great achievement in vaccination research, medicine production and clinical trials related with viral hepatitis. The occurrence of the disease will be reduced substantially and the cure rate will be greatly improved.
Third, Chinese scientists will make great achievement in related scientific research and cultivate an excellent medical team, who will make their contributions to curb the spread of viral hepatitis.
In order to reach these goals, Wang said that Chinese scientists would conduct scientific research in a comprehensive way in order to control the disease in every of its developmental stage.
At present, China has 130 million hepatitis B virus carriers, accounting for 10% of the country’s total population. About 39 million people suffer from hepatitis B, which has caused a negative social and economic impact to the country.
