CHINA:   "Chinese Schools Ban Hepatitis B Carriers: Report"

The China Daily newspaper has reported that central government authorities
are expressing outrage over the expulsion of 19 middle school students with
hepatitis B in the city of Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang. "We made the
decision when considering a safe environment for our other 900-plus
students," said an official from one of the schools. But an official of the
Ministry of Health in Beijing said the government opposes any discrimination
against persons with hepatitis B, which affects more than 120 million
Chinese. "What the schools have done is not legal," said Zhang Yuanxin, an
attorney. "Even if the students are hepatitis B carriers, they still have
the right to a normal school life."
