Scientists from Copenhagen University found traces of hepatitis b in human DNA, who lived 4.5 million years ago/
Reports mir24.tv the experts have identified DNA from the teeth and the temporal bone of the skeletons of 137 people from nomadic peoples who lived 2000-7000 years ago. The obtained data were compared to the genomes of 167 people, has been studied previously.
The study identified 25 people, one of whom lived 4.5 million years ago, fragments of nucleic acid belonging to the genome of hepatitis b virus, is capable of completely or partially embedded in the DNA of the host.
As scholars have noted, it is the oldest evidence of the existence of the virus found so far. Before this discovery the age of the earliest signs of a hepatitis b virus was 450 years. The researchers thus proved that hepatitis b was widespread in Eurasia for several thousand years.
