This is an excellent sample of architecturally normal liver tissue with generalised, mild portal tract fibrous expansion with short and long spicules, although without septum formation. A few 2 cell thick regenerative appearing plates are present.
Portal tracts have a mild, occasionally moderate chronic inflammatory cell infiltrate including small lymphoid aggregates. Focal interface hepatitis is seen in many tracts. There is mild ductular reaction with normal appearing bile ducts.
The parenchyma shows scattered and occasionally frequent lymphocytic necroinflammatory foci with Kupffer cell hyperplasia and slight lymphocytosis. Scattered ground glass hepapocytes are present and there is slight large-cell change. There are small foci of regenerative hepapocytes. No steatosis no cholestasis is present.
There is no cholestasis, siderosis, deposition of alpha-1 and antitrypsin no copper associated protein.
Final Diagnosis
Liver biopsy - features of chronic HBV infection with overall moderate activity and mild fibrosis. |
