Gilead has established sponsorship for the annual Antonin Holy Memorial Lecture Award by committing annual funding of $7,500 to the International Society for Antiviral Research (ISAR). The nominee must be a senior scientist of international stature who has made innovative contributions that have had a major impact on antiviral drug discovery and/or development who has demonstrated career-long scientific prominence in medicinal chemistry evidenced by funded research, corporate and/or academic leadership, patents, publications, and presentations. The nominee must have demonstrated service to the field of medicinal chemistry and antiviral research through participation in study sections, membership in editorial boards, and leadership in professional societies. The award will be conferred at the time of the lecture at the annual conference of the Society. The funds will be used for minimal administrative fees, travel and per diem for the awardee, and the award will be in the amount of $5000 (the award will be constant, expenses for travel and per diem will vary depending on where the awardee is coming from).
The ISAR membership will be invited to submit nominations following the published criteria by October 15 for the next award. In addition to the name, the nomination should include a paragraph substantiating the nomination. The Committee will consider these nominations and will submit nominations themselves. The list will then be narrowed down by the Committee to two to three finalists and the Committee will then select the awardee from that list. The name of the Awardee will be submitted to the Chair of the Program Committee in time for the placement in a prominent position in the Annual Program. The name will also be submitted to the President of the ISAR for his/her letter notifying the recipient of the Award and also notifying Gilead of the selection.
