The annual National Geographic Photography Competition is in full swing, and already there are some stunning entries. The gorgeous male polar bear cub above was photographed by Colin Mackenzie, who captured its lively activities when he visited Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. "The mother was just trying to have a quiet stroll but the cubs were not having any of that. This was the male cub and he just was so entertaining to watch," says Mackenzie, who called his entry "Artic Hi Five".

Title: "Warming Up". Photo and caption by Hendy Mp: This photo I capture in the early afternoon, the animal species of lemurs fly. Photo Location: Sambas, West Kalimantan, Indonesia
Title: "Searching for Love". Photo and caption by Spencer Black: Blue Ghost Fireflies in Brevard, North Carolina. Blue Ghost fireflies are unique because they stay lit and only hover about a foot off the ground. Photo Location: Brevard, North Carolina
