                                                                                          A surgeon at the clinic in Liaoning province has been detained, according to   the Xinhua News Agency.

Donggang city officials say 120 patients who received varicose vein treatment   were traced and screened for the disease and 95 of those are undergoing   further examination in hospital.

Local authorities were tipped off that patients could be infected and the case   is still being investigated, according to xinhua.

The hepatitis C virus causes a liver disease that can range from a mild   illness lasting a few weeks to a serious, lifelong condition that can lead   to cirrhosis of the liver or liver cancer.

The case is somewhat reminiscent of a scandal in Henan province in the 1990s,   when thousands of people were mistakenly infected with HIV, in one of the   biggest medical scandals of all time. There are no official figures because   the Chinese   government has never admitted or apologised for what happened.
