Novaferon is a new proprietary protein drug developed by Genova Biotech which can be used to treat a variety of malignant tumors and viral diseases. Its highly potent anti-tumor and anti-virus activities have been proven by National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological products: its anti-tumor and anti-virus activities are 246.7 times and 10 times higher than that of similar products, respectively!
Anti-tumor effect
According to the pharmacodynamic study, Novaferon is able to inhibit tumor recurrence and metastasis and has a potent effect on colorectal cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer and some other solid tumors. In addition, the drug combination of Novaferon and other first-line chemotherapeutic drugs is able to enhance the efficacy of standard treatment.
Anti-virus effect
Novaferon shows significant inhibitions of HBV and HCV replications. Moreover, it is able to inhibit the activity of avian influenza H5N1 to some extent and remarkably inhibit the HIV activity. Compared with Intron A®, the most popular anti-virus drug in the market, Novaferon shows a more efficient anti-virus activity.
Distinction of Novaferon compared with protein in foods
Proteins are organic compounds made of 20 standard amino acids in general, which constitutes essential parts of organisms. The proteins contained in food are commonly hydrolyzed to amino acids in vivo, which provides nutrients for organisms. Differed from the function of protein in foods, Novaferon plays the roles of anti-tumor and anti-virus drugs in vivo.
Multiple anti- tumor mechanisms
Three main mechanisms of anti-tumor effect of Novaferon are involved:
1.Inhibit tumor cell proliferation and induce cell apoptosis
Novaferon functions mainly through interferon signaling pathways. A series of anti-tumor genes, involving cell proliferation, cell cycle, cell apoptosis, anti-inflammatory immune, and antigen recognition can be induced by Novaferon.
Like Interferon α-2b, Novaferon possesses two interferon receptor binding sites. However, more binding sites for Novaferon have been observed on tumor cells compared with that of Interferonα-2b.
2.Inhibit revascularization of tumor cells, block tumor’s blood supply so that “starve” the tumor cells
It is proven that Novaferon is competent to significantly inhibit VEFG-induced HUVEC (Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells) proliferation and the revascularization of HT-29 human colorectal cancer cells transplanted into nude mice.
3.Modify the immune function, actively inhibit tumor cell proliferation
Novaferon enhances the activity of NK (Natural Killer) cells so that improves the anti-tumor function of immune system.
