On Feb. 1, the White House Initiative on AsianAmericans and Pacific Islanders expressed their commitment to endingviral hepatitis nationwide. 2月1日,“白宫亚裔及太平洋岛民计划”(the White HouseInitiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders)发表承诺将致力于在全国范围内消除病毒性肝炎。
1 in 12 people worldwide is living with viral hepatitis,with viral hepatitis affecting as many as 5 million Americans.Hepatitis B affects1 in 10 Asian and Pacific Islanders, and is vaccine preventable. 全球平均每12人中有1人携带病毒性肝炎,其中,高达500万美国人感染病毒性肝炎。亚裔及太平洋岛民平均1/10感染乙型肝炎病毒,而这种病毒本身是可以打疫苗预防的。
“Hepatitis is a problem that is important to us and President Obama, the firstpresident to publicly acknowledge that chronic viral hepatitis is a nationalconcern,” said Chris Lu, White House Cabinet Secretary andCo-chair, White House Initiative on Asian Americans and PacificIslanders. “Hep B is a problem that disproportionately affects our APIcommunity. It’s important to raise public awareness of the importance of earlydetection.”

Lu said the Department of Health and Human Serviceshas developed a viral hepatitis action plan and White House Initiative on AsianAmericans and Pacific Islanders will be working closely with them to make sureit’s implemented.
