as a guy who's been learning English for years,completely on his own,i would say interest's the key to success in studying English.just as the saying goes ,interest's your best teacher.that's a little trite but not without  truth.
    my English learning journey started about 6 years ago when i was in the  second year of my secondary vocational school.at that time ,my knowledge of English was close to nothing because i dropped out middle school once and  left middle school a underachiever.i couldn't even name the 26 English letters ,much less than spelling good morning,afternoon,etc.but with great interest in English and diligence ,i  succeeded in getting over difficuties that other people fail to overcome.
     language learning requires a lot of investment in time and energy and we need to persevere to be successful,and in the absence of interest,it would be hard for you to persist .
