Microbiotix obtains rights to antiviral compounds





Microbiotix, Inc. has obtained an exclusive, worldwide license to a series of novel antiviral compounds.



These compounds were discovered through the collaborative research efforts of Dr. Jiri Zemlicka of Wayne State University and Dr. John Drach of the University of Michigan. Individual compounds in the licensed series have demonstrated activity against a wide variety of disease- causing viruses including cytomegalovirus, hepatitis B virus and Epstein-Barr virus.



A. Kirk Field, Ph.D., Microbiotix's President and Chief Scientific Officer commented, "We are pleased to include these proprietary antiviral compounds in our growing anti-infectives product portfolio. The arrangement with Wayne State University and the University of Michigan gives us the right to develop the licensed compounds for all indications worldwide. Given the impressive activity of several compounds against a range of potential indications, we plan to develop specific drugs ourselves, while pursuing corporate partnerships in areas that fall outside our strategic focus."



Fred Reinhart, Director of Technology Transfer at Wayne State University, cited the positive working relationship of the parties. "Wayne State provided the design and synthesis, the University of Michigan undertook the testing of the compounds and Microbiotix, with its strong technology platform and seasoned management team, completes the partnership and will move this series toward the clinic", he said.



Microbiotix, Inc. is a product-oriented biopharmaceutical company engaged in the research and development of novel small molecule, anti-infective drugs that address significant unmet medical needs.

I apologized that I disappointed you so much. I know it is news, but sometimes news DOES bring people hope and courage. It at least tells that people or CHEMISTS in this country ARE doing something about HBV and virus infected diseases for the world. I am sorry I don’t think either the university or the company will release the formula at this point. Once they do, I will definitely let you know. i have made up my plan to study drug designing in treatment in chronic hepatitis B. And i am looking for information about that in schools of USA----You know i am applying now for fall, 2002



i have found some infor in JHU but i am afraid it is too late...missed deadline!

It's good for you, and I'm pretty sure it is an interesting area. Yap, the deadline for admission of Fall, 2002 in semester system has just been passed, but there is nothing to be regretted about. You may try it again for Spring of 2003 or else. Good luck.
