Volunteer who helps others needs help herself
By Bruce Beck
Goodlife Correspondent
Despite Ms. EE's numerous problems, she volunteers to help the less fortunate.
After working for years for a California utilities company, Ms. EE has found that her move to Amarillo has been complicated by health problems, which forced her out of the workforce. Her battles with hepatitis and osteoarthritis have been overshadowed by the results of carpal tunnel surgery, which has left her with limited use of her hands.
While she waits for her government disability insurance claim to wend its way through the bureaucracy, she fights emotional frustration. To keep her mind off her situation, she immerses herself in the novels of Stephen King and biographies.
All Ms. EE wants for Christmas is a new toaster or some new bathroom towels. Ms. EE dreamed of a happy retirement but now she can only think of survival. She wants basic items that would give her joy at home.
A contribution to the Empty Stocking Fund can make Ms. EE's holiday a more joyful occasion.
