Association of fasting serum glucose level and type 2 diabetes with hepatocellular carcinoma in men with chronic hepatitis B infection: A large cohort study
European Journal of Cancer — Kim K, et al. | September 19, 2018
In patients with chronic hepatitis B, researchers evaluated if elevated fasting serum glucose level and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) are correlated to an increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), irrespective of obesity. They evaluated 214,167 Korean men with chronic hepatitis B in the National Health Insurance Service. Findings suggested a significant association of elevated fasting serum glucose level and T2DM with an increased risk of HCC, regardless of obesity in this population. To prevent HCC, experts suggested considering glycemic control in men with chronic hepatitis B patients in clinical practice.
