I have read several papers by Carlo Ferrari, especially his early seminal paper on Immune system against HBV. Only recentlydid Carlo Ferrari and other researchers accept that prolonged exposure to excessive viral antigens lead to exhaustion of hbv specific T cells and also to depletion of some HBV epitope specific T cells. Before REP9AC, there were suggestions that this may be the case, but only in the last few years, post REP9AC, that this has now been accepted by most researcher, including Ferrari! I think it is too early to say that it is now a "textbook" fact because nobody has yet fully explained what lead to immune tolerance, inhibition, and exhaustion due to the various viral antigens. Whether the clinical results from REP9AC led them to this acceptance is a moot point, but it must have played an important role.
I don't want to continue this discussion, because we completely disagree on some common grounds to have any meaningful discussions. After all we are only arguing about some pointless historical facts.
