The first successful penis transplant in history took place in Cape Town, South Africa's Tygerberg Hospital thanks to a team of surgeons from Stellenbosch University.
On Dec. 11, 2014, the unidentified recipient, age 21, underwent a 9-hour operation. This type of procedure had been attempted unsuccessfully once before. But now, 3-months post-op, this patient has recovered and regained complete urinary and reproductive functions. However, full sensation has not yet been restored.
